Who do you know?

Who do you know who's an artist or writer or musician, who's super talented—like, worlds of potential—but they're frequently frustrated because they want to take their work deeper and don't know how?

Or maybe they do know how to take their work further, they just feel blocked or derailed every time they start taking steps in that direction.

Because I'm sure you have at least one friend like that.

They've probably been talking for years about writing a novel or making a film or doing an ambitious public work. But instead of going for it or following through, they get scared and find excuses. They shrink from opportunities and visibility without fully understanding why they can't keep it together to get somewhere meaningful.

Who is that person? Is it your sister or that one coworker or the college bestie you still vibe with?

Because I'm dying to meet them.

They're the one who's preoccupied with fear that they're self-sabotaging or not being serious enough about their creative work. But then the more they push and bully themselves to move forward, the faster they burnout. (Rinse, repeat.)

Or it could be that person who just got a big break—like a sweet grant or residency or funding for their film—and they're freaking the fudge out because their nervous system isn't regulated to having so much awesome opportunity land in their lap. They're terrified they're going to blow it and it's making following their artistic vision feel damn near impossible.

Or maybe they're the person who wants to do more ambitious work but can't imagine how that's possible since their plate is already full to breaking with other work and life obligations.

OR MAYBE they're someone who fears their creativity is gone! Maybe your friend is the person who thinks they'll never be the writer or musician or painter they almost were years ago.

The person I'm talking about is out here feeling hella alone, like they're just walking from one dead end to another, vacillating between treading water and just fully giving up....

But you know that there's so much more they're capable of. If they could only see the potential in themselves that you see in them (!), it'd liberate them to make the work they're destined to bring into the world.

I'm offering a limited number of free focusing sessions for friends of my friends (that's, you!).

This is an opportunity to offer the artist you care about more than platitudes to get them back on track creating meaningful work. These focusing sessions go deep! People come out the other side feeling unburdened and energized, with stunning clarity on what steps to take the next.

Do you want to get that next level support and empowerment for your person? Here's what you do:

=> => Hit reply and tell me about your friend and why you think a focusing session would be good for them. Tell me how awesome or necessary their work is, or what they'd be capable of if they only believed in themself as much as you believe in them. ✨

That's it!

The first couple people to write me, will get to score a free sesh for their comrades.

Don't wait to spread the love! Hit reply.

Love + solidarity,

Sam

P.S. - Omg, did you think I was talking about you? Hm... well, then maybe you're the friend you need to be championing right now. Hit reply. 💜

This week, a treat from the archives. Enjoy! Part 1: The Arch What if your creative practice wasn't one thing, but everything, always? How would that change your relationship to wherever you are, right fucking now? I conceived of the Arch a couple of years ago. As someone who has had many significant breaks in their creative practice, it was revolutionary to think about my art as something steady and continuous. I found that no matter how far away my practice felt, if I simply showed up to it...

Six out of seven tasks in my current morning routine are centered on grounding in calm, connection, and strategy. The seventh task? It's one fiery event that stresses me the fuck out. And I love it. Because, integral to my morning routine is my High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT) workout program, which is designed to put my body through hell in a way that's, like, very strategic and very, very rewarding way. => Heads up that you're going to get some fitness advice from a non-medical...

Patience is a virtue. Truly. Profound change is non-linear and in periods of substantial growth we sometimes hit roadblocks and confusion that seems to stall us outright. Patience in these moments helps us stay the course, tap back into creativity and resourcefulness. Patience keeps us from giving up and getting too frustrated to see our goals through. HOWEVER— Somewhere along the way the need for patience in transitions became the idea that change is necessarily slow. Which is, frankly,...
